Quantum LP52s
The 50Mb Quantum LP52s disc drive used to fit my UNISYS 286/10MHz machine.
It was bound to an Adaptec AHA-164x SCSI This drive has unspecific size and that is why it is easy to remember it. Quantum really paid attention to the aspect of the disc drive. The entire disc drive is extremely light. The aluminum case of this disc drive is probably what makes it so light. Quantum put a sticker on the top cover (as you can see from the picture) that says POWER REQ: 5/12V and 6W. This is an aspect that not many companies specified on the disc's top cover. I did not wanted to open the lid of this drive to take a shot of the inside because it still works and has not a "bad sector" on it. It is happy and fast as ever. The drive (making pair with an Adaptec AHA-154CF SCSI controller) was used to create this Site. The entire site is residing on that disc. As for the other aspects, I would like to mention that this drive gets a little hot while running, it runs hotter than any similar drives of it's capacity and up... The design of this drive is very pleasant. In it's silver aluminum case, the drive looks great and Quantum did it again releasing a good disc drive back in 1990. I can't date the disc drive exactly because there is no date sticker affixed to it. The only way I can date the disc drive is to turn it upside down and to read on the DisCache® chip 1988 and on the PCB is written 1990 so I supposed the drive appeared in 1990. The layout of the components on the PCB is quite good and you just can't miss the shape of the LED if you ever get your hands on such piece of hardware. All respects goes to Quantum for releasing this great disc drive. CHARACTERISTICS: CAPACITY:
